    GLOBAL COMPLIANCE

     

    Our division prevents, detects and mitigates compliance, regulatory and reputational risk across the firm and helps to strengthen the firm’s culture of compliance. Compliance accomplishes these through the firm’s enterprise-wide compliance risk management program. As an independent control function and part of the firm’s second line of defense, Compliance assesses the firm’s compliance, regulatory and reputational risk; monitors for compliance with new or amended laws, rules and regulations; designs and implements controls, policies, procedures and training; conducts independent testing; investigates, surveils and monitors for compliance risks and breaches; and leads the firm’s responses to regulatory examinations, audits and inquiries. You'll be part of a team with members from a wide range of academic and professional backgrounds, such as law, accounting, sales, and trading.     With an increased electronification of markets across asset classes and digitization of services, the profile of risks in trading continues to evolve. We have established a niche team of quants and software engineers - the “Electronic Trading and Digital Services Compliance” team at Goldman Sachs to keep pace with this changing risk profile.

     

    This team is responsible for helping the Firm to manage its operational, regulatory, and reputational risks related to electronic trading and digital activities. This group covers all asset classes across Fixed Income, Equities, Commodities, Forex and Futures markets to provide subject matter expertise on the algo trading risks, specifically risks emanating from the software implementation of trading activities within the context of sound operational risk management and regulatory obligations.

     

    This team sits within the Global Compliance division, which prevents, detects and mitigates compliance, regulatory and reputational risk across the firm and helps to strengthen the firm’s culture of compliance. You'll be part of a team with members from a wide range of academic and professional backgrounds, such as sales, trading, computer science, financial engineering, and law.     RESPONSIBILITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS

    Role Description

    This role provides broad exposure to individuals across products, market structures across the globe, various algorithmic trading strategies and supporting technology systems. The team does in-depth analysis of order flows across different types of activities, such as market making, risk facilitation and agency trading. The role challenges the individuals to become subject matter expert in the electronic markets, understand business and regulatory concerns and devise automated control mechanisms to improve our control structure.

     

    This individual’s responsibilities will include:

    • Understanding business context and trading activity profile (e.g., business economics, products traded, market structure, software systems and algo logic)
    • Evaluating risks within the trading ecosystem, specifically focus on the algo design and development
    • Advising front-office engineers, trading and sales on appropriate algo risk mitigation mechanisms
    • Sharing leading practices with Business, Engineering and Compliance teams
    • Provide thought leadership to review, analyze impact of and implement controls for new e-trading regulatory requirements (e.g., FX Code of Conduct)

                                                             

    A successful individual will bring deep expertise in quant/engineering with knowledge of electronic trading markets. The candidate must demonstrate ability to effectively review and analyze complex situations and apply judgment to resolve issues in a timely manner with minimal supervision.

     

    Skills / Experience

    • An undergraduate degree is required
    • Educational background in Financial Engineering, Computer Science, Engineering or similar degree
    • Knowledge of programming languages (C/C++, Java, etc.)
    • At least 3+ years of relevant work experience, preferably in electronic trading, trading technology, or risk management
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills and an ability to work well under the pressures of a trading environment
    • Ability to work independently and apply judgment to resolve issues in a timely manner
    • Knowledge of broker-dealer regulatory compliance including FINRA, NYSE and SEC regulations is a plus
