    We are looking for a candidate to join the Customized Beta Strategies (CBS) team, a fast-growing business within QIS. The team manages over $85bn in Customized Smart Beta and ESG strategies across the Private Wealth, Institutional, and Third Party platforms. The ideal candidate is passionate about portfolio management, quantitative investment research and the growing intersection between technology and investment management more broadly. We welcome individuals who enjoy a fast paced work environment and can leverage technical skills to manage portfolios, produce investment analysis and insight and further develop our investment strategies and capabilities.  Candidates should have a STEM background, a familiarity with programming language such as C / C++, Java, Python, R, Matlab and interest in equity markets.



    Consumer and Investment Management (CIMD)

    The Consumer and Investment Management Division includes Goldman Sachs Asset Management (GSAM), Private Wealth Management (PWM) and our Consumer business (Marcus by Goldman Sachs).     Within GSAM, the Quantitative Investment Strategies (QIS) team manages over $150 billion across a variety of mandates including institutional portfolios, high net worth accounts and mutual funds, using sophisticated quantitative models that have been developed in an innovative research environment. The team is one of the largest quantitative managers in the world, and is recognized as an industry leader in quantitative portfolio management techniques. The team manages exposures to global stock, bond, currency and commodity markets to generate excess return, or “alpha,” for client portfolios. The team also manages a platform of advanced beta strategies, which includes various smart beta, hedge fund replication, tax-efficient and customized, rules-based beta capabilities. As one of the longest-running quantitative teams in the industry, QIS has developed a strong reputation for innovation, excellence, teamwork and camaraderie.




    • Contribute to the creation of global smart beta strategies that provide exposure to common equity factors such as value, momentum, quality, low risk, income, and size.
    • Help evaluate external environmental, social, and governance (ESG) data providers; construct proprietary ESG metrics based on a wide variety of alternative data; and develop new ESG equity strategies or refine existing strategies.
    • Conduct research related to risk analysis and performance attribution of smart beta / ESG equity strategies.
    • Collaborate with the QIS Client Portfolio Managers (CPM) team and GSAM Sales team to find creative solutions for our institutional and high net worth clients.
    • Work closely with the CBS portfolio managers to simulate the historical performance of new and/or enhanced smart beta / ESG equity strategies




    • Undergraduate and/or graduate degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or another highly quantitative discipline. Coursework in Economics/Finance/Accounting and Econometrics/Statistics is a strong plus.
    • Computer programming experience (e.g., Matlab, Python, R, Java, C / C++)
    • Creative, diverse problem solving skills, solid economic intuition, good commercial instinct
    • Careful/thorough, well organized, effective time management
    • Thrive in a team-oriented and collaborative environment
    • Solid communication skills (especially written communication)
    • Interest in financial markets as well as environmental, social, and governance (ESG) strategies. (Experience and background with quantitative techniques and investment management preferable.)
