    RESPONSIBILITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS

    Duties: Vice President with Goldman Sachs & Co. LLC in New York, New York. Senior portfolio manager and researcher for hedge fund tracker portfolios (Vice President) - The Alternative Investments Strategies (AIS) team resides within the Quantitative Investment Strategies group within the Consumer and Investment Management Division. The AIS team is divided into four primary business lines: hedge fund tracking, alternative risk premia, trend, and volatility. The team provides investment solutions to clients that seek alternative sources of return, i.e. return streams that diversify existing equity and fixed income exposures of a client’s portfolio. Responsibilities include: Serving as the portfolio manager for the Goldman Sachs Absolute Return Tracker Fund (an Investment Company Act of 1940 mutual fund) with responsibility for the hedge fund tracking business line, the oldest continuously operating of the four business lines. This entails: monitoring systematic multi-asset factor models on an ongoing basis in order to ensure that they are delivering the expected returns within the expected risk parameters; understanding both US and European regulations governing investment vehicles (Investment Company Act of 1940 and UCITS mutual funds) as well as model controls instituted by the Federal Reserve; ensuring that the portfolios and material associated therewith are in compliance; and assisting client-facing personnel when addressing client requests requiring quantitative analysis as well as when directly engaging with clients in in-depth discussions about hedge fund tracking products. Performing portfolio research for two (2) hedge fund tracking portfolios as well as for four (4) variable insurance trust mandates. This entails: applying knowledge of analytical and quantitative models to conduct analyses of systematic risk exposures of hedge funds, and conduct quantitative research on liquid multi-asset portfolios; developing new models from scratch as well as enhancing existing multi-asset models in order to provide those exposures or reasonable facsimiles thereof; applying knowledge of a wide range of hedge fund trading styles as well as the liquid instruments available to deliver such exposures; and enhancing the robustness of the quantitative modeling around existing and future hedge fund tracking products.

     

    Job Requirements: Ph.D (U.S. or foreign equivalent) in Economics or a related field. Three (3) years of experience in the position offered or a related investment management position. Prior experience must include two (2) years of experience with: programming and quantitative financial analysis using coding languages C++ or C# or other languages based on these as well as statistical software packages R or Matlab; identifying and analyzing multi-asset (including equities, fixed income, currencies, credit, and commodities) risk premia exposures in order to inform investment decisions; analyzing hedge fund investment processes and styles, encompassing Equity Long Short, Macro, Relative Value, as well as Event Driven; financial modeling experience, including the ability to identify and manipulate relevant data and to conduct advanced econometric analysis (both time-series as well as cross-sectional econometric techniques) to determine the design of systematic investment strategies; managing investment vehicles in accordance with the regulatory environment, including the 1940 Investment Company Act and the framework for Undertakings for Collective Investment in Transferable Securities (UCITS), for fund management; synthesizing and presenting research analysis, recommendations, and implications of investment decisions to senior management as well as client-facing personnel; and analyzing, aggregating, and summarizing portfolio exposures and portfolio risks for internal and external reporting purposes as well as reporting to regulatory authorities.
