The Strategic Capital Group (SCG) within the Merchant Banking Division (MBD) is looking for an Associate to join its Fund Financing team in New York.

 

The Strategic Capital Group (SCG) within MBD drives equity and debt capital raising, investor relations, and marketing across all products managed by MBD as well as the syndication of co-investment opportunities to the division’s key investor base. In addition, SCG plays a significant role in the structuring of the firm’s investments, working with the investment deal teams and investor clients, as well as various functional areas within the firm and across divisions (Securities, CIMD, IBD).

 

We are seeking an experienced Associate to work on the Fund Financing team within the Capital Markets function of SCG. The Fund Financing team is responsible for sourcing, structuring, executing, and managing fund level leverage on behalf of MBD’s family of funds including Private Equity, Private Credit, Real Estate Equity, Real Estate Credit and Infrastructure Equity. This role will also have the opportunity to work with the other functions within the SCG group including fundraising, investor relations, and the syndication of investments and funds. The work is strategy, deal, and investor focused, allowing you access to a wide range of businesses, industries, investment structures, and investor types. You will follow the full life cycle of the financing of various funds using different financing products. The position is a unique opportunity to gain experience and insight into a broad range of private equity, private credit, real estate, and infrastructure investment strategies through the lens of the most sophisticated investors around the globe.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS

Responsibilities

  • Support heads of fund finance to source, structure, and execute a variety of bespoke capital commitment and asset backed fund financings division-wide
  • Contribute to the ongoing strategic development of the overall fund finance platform
  • Manage ongoing relationships with external relationship managers, lenders and asset-structuring professionals at a variety of financial institutions including banks, insurance companies, pension funds, and specialty lending entities
  • Collaborate extensively with fund CIOs and investment professionals to ensure comprehensive understanding of fund strategies and underlying assets
  • Negotiate full suite of transaction documentation including working with business team and counsel to identify risks/opportunities and communicate appropriate positions to prospective lenders
  • Lead fund-level and asset-level due diligence conducted by prospective lenders
  • Prepare fund finance marketing materials and assist with coordinating and organizing on-site diligence meetings
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with internal and external legal counsel

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university
  • 5+ years of prior relevant experience
  • Strong quantitative, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication (written & verbal) and interpersonal skills
  • Experience in a client facing or other external facing role including negotiation experience
  • Clear ability to multitask and work to deadlines; strong organizational skills required
  • Strong team player
  • Solid work ethic, motivational level, and strong attention to detail
  • Advanced level MS Excel skills
  • Strong interest in capital markets and structured finance
  • Knowledge of private equity and/or leveraged lending market a plus
