    Our division prevents, detects and mitigates compliance, regulatory and reputational risk across the firm and helps to strengthen the firm’s culture of compliance. Compliance accomplishes these through the firm’s enterprise-wide compliance risk management program. As an independent control function and part of the firm’s second line of defense, Compliance assesses the firm’s compliance, regulatory and reputational risk; monitors for compliance with new or amended laws, rules and regulations; designs and implements controls, policies, procedures and training; conducts independent testing; investigates, surveils and monitors for compliance risks and breaches; and leads the firm’s responses to regulatory examinations, audits and inquiries. You'll be part of a team with members from a wide range of academic and professional backgrounds, such as law, accounting, sales, and trading.     It is the role of Goldman Sachs’ Global Compliance Division to help ensure that every employee and client of the firm upholds this principle.  Accordingly, the Division is viewed as an integral part of the firm, enabling it to conduct business confidently in complex global markets.


    Part of the Global Compliance Division, the firm’s Regulatory Practice Group (“RPG”) is a dynamic, global team of more than 50 professionals charged with interfacing with regulators on regulatory examinations and inquiries received in jurisdictions worldwide.  Led by a Global Head in New York, the team has members in Bengaluru, Hong Kong, Jersey City, London, New York, Sydney and Tokyo.


    The RPG team for the Americas is looking for a talented individual to join its New York team as a Vice President, to serve as RPG’s Global Technology Coordinator.  The position will be based at Goldman Sachs’ global headquarters in Manhattan.





    Because technology plays an integral part in the firm’s provision of financial services to firm clients, it also plays a critical role in the firm’s responses to requests for information received from financial industry regulators globally.  These information requests, which seek to test Goldman Sachs’ compliance with the laws and regulations applicable to its many businesses, routinely require the production of documentation and data that is created and/or maintained in a wide array of firm systems.  For example, a regulatory inquiry may require the production of client account statements from an electronic storage location, client position information from an electronic position ledger, and a detailed audit trail of client trading activity from the firm’s electronic trading systems.


    As RPG’s Global Technology Coordinator, you will serve as the key liaison between RPG team members (in all regions) and Engineering teams globally for the purposes of:

    • Helping RPG team members communicate specific technology needs, such as data and documentation productions, to Engineering teams and their leadership;
    • Guiding RPG team members in their navigation of the firm’s large Engineering organization, so as to help ensure appropriate information-sharing and escalation of regulatory requests;
    • Documenting “golden sources” of the data and documentation commonly needed by RPG teams globally, and the Engineering teams that own those sources, for ongoing RPG reference;
    • Serving as the lead on complex data requests received from regulators, working with Engineering and other stakeholders teams to compile complete and accurate data in a timely manner;
    • Serving as the lead on strategic technology projects (builds) needed by RPG in support of its ongoing work (e.g., new query tools, data repositories, workflow tools), including coordinating the compiling of user requirements and project schedules;
    • Identifying and spearheading efforts to position RPG to more efficiently obtain needed data and documentation from Engineering teams.  


    As suggested by the above description, applicants need to have significant experience either as a member of an Engineering team within the financial industry, or in a role that involved regular work with Engineering teams.  In particular, applicants should have experience with systems used to create or maintain one or more of the following data types: CFTC, SEC or FINRA regulatory reporting, order and execution audit trails (equities, options, bonds, futures), account position information, and/or trade allocation information.  Familiarity with the challenges attendant to data gathering across multiple systems and businesses will be an advantage.


    In addition, a RPG Vice President must have the ability to:

    • Leverage strong communication and relationship-building skills in frequent interaction with other areas of the firm and regulators;
    • Demonstrate resiliency and creativity when under pressure and when managing time-sensitive demands from competing stakeholders;
    • Conduct expert research and data gathering;
    • Apply excellent analytical abilities;
    • Effectively and efficiently conduct business by phone;
    • Create clear, well-organized and error-free written materials;
    • Suggest practical solutions in the face of obstacles;
    • Organize and maintain large quantities of data and documentation in a dynamic environment;
    • Be unfailingly detail-oriented, so as to consistently produce accurate work product;
    • Work independently and exercise strong judgment when executing an assigned task;
    • Multi-task and have the ability to manage and advance multiple projects simultaneously;
    • Identify and effectively escalate potential issues to appropriate person(s);
    • Meet tight deadlines and comfortably operate in the face of time constraints;
    • Persistently follow-up with colleagues to ensure that appropriate information is obtained and timely produced to regulators.

    Basic Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or other relevant program;
    • At least seven years of relevant work experience;
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint;
    • Business-level fluency in English, both orally and in writing;
    • Excellent time management, analytical and communication skills;
    • Integrity, motivation, intellectual curiosity and enthusiasm;
    • Familiarity with financial industry products, such as equities, options, bonds, futures, commodities and swaps.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Outstanding graduate school and undergraduate credentials;
    • Significant experience working with Engineering teams at financial institutions, either as part of Engineering teams or in close collaboration with the same;
    • Experience building and maintaining software applications conforming with financial industry regulatory requirements;
    • Experience presenting to senior stakeholders.
