Work Schedule: 40 hours per week (9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.)
Duties: Associate with Goldman Sachs & Co. LLC in New York, New York on the Operational Due Diligence (“ODD”) team within the Alternative Investments and Manager Selection (“AIMS”) business within Goldman Sachs Asset Management (“GSAM”), responsible for evaluating third party investment managers that GSAM clients invest in, focusing on identifying any material operational risks that these firms may introduce to clients. Responsibilities include: leading operational diligences to evaluate third party asset managers across asset classes (e.g., hedge funds, long-only, private equity, real estate, private credit, venture capital, ESG investing, etc.) that GS clients (across client channels) invest in (diligence focuses on identifying any material operational risks that these firms may introduce to clients across several factors including but not limited to: organizational risk, investment strategy risk, regulatory/compliance risk, human capital risk, technology (including cybersecurity) risk, service provider and counterparty risk, operational and valuation risk); performing ongoing monitoring diligences on asset managers through periodic visits, calls and other interactions, which primarily include senior professionals from the manager; providing administrative support to a GS chartered committee that governs the operational due diligence process, including process management, material preparation and distribution as well as logistical coordination given global attendee list; conducting market intelligence analysis and research on relevant service providers of the asset management industry, evolving global regulatory landscape as well as other industry trends; producing operational due diligence manager/strategy memorandums for the internal committee and external client distribution; facilitating and coordinating onboarding of new portfolios through divisional and/or client acquisitions; and coordinating and performing financial modeling and analytics (including enhancing various manager selection frameworks and factor models).
Job Requirements: Bachelor’s degree (U.S. or foreign equivalent) in Finance, Economics or a related field. Three (3) years of experience in the job offered or a related position. Prior work experience must include one (1) year of experience with: working with alternative investments; conducting alternative investment manager selection through quantitative and qualitative due diligence, and in-depth evaluation of individual firms and strategies, requiring experience with: public and private asset classes, including experience with one or more of the following: hedge funds, public equities, public fixed income, private equity, venture capital, real estate, or ESG investments; investment instruments, including experience with one or more of the following: equities, derivatives, options, fixed income, commodities, currencies, or structured credit; investment structures, including experience with one or more of the following: separate account, private commingled fund, or regulated funds; and industry terminology; working with investment fund documentation, including legal documents, fund terms, regulatory filings, partnership financial statements, valuation policies, compliance manuals, disaster recovery plans and incident response plans, or operational controls testing; leading operational due diligences and interview sessions with experienced industry professionals; articulating due diligence findings to stakeholders or clients and presenting in formal settings such as a committee; synthesizing and memorializing the work performed and relevant findings from diligence in formal memorandums; conducting ongoing market intelligence research and applying that research as it relates to alternative asset management industry, global and financial markets, global regulations as well as technology and other trends; and using MS Excel, including pivot tables, analytical charts and financial analysis, Word and Powerpoint. Series 7 and 63 license required. Travel required (international and domestic) approximately 10-20% of the time to perform diligence at the manager’s place of business in certain cases.
