GSAM provides institutional and individual investors with investment and advisory solutions, with strategies spanning asset classes, industries, and geographies.  We help our clients navigate today’s dynamic markets, and identify the opportunities that shape their portfolios and long-term investment goals. Goldman Sachs Asset Management (GSAM) delivers innovative investment solutions through a global, multi-product platform that offers clients the advantages that come with working with a large firm, while maintaining the benefits of a boutique. GSAM is one of the pre-eminent investment management organizations globally. Critical to the success of GSAM is our ability to leverage a global team of talented professionals to define solutions and lead change across the investing landscape.

    OUR IMPACT

The AIMS (Alternative Investments & Manager Selection) Group provides investors with investment and advisory solutions across leading hedge fund managers, private equity funds, private credit funds, real estate managers, and public equity and fixed income strategies. The AIMS Group manages globally diversified commingled fund products, targeted sector-specific strategies, customized portfolios, and a range of advisory services. Our investors access opportunities through new fund commitments, fund-of-fund investments, strategic partnerships, secondary-market investments, co-investments, and seed-capital investments. With over 250 professionals across 7 offices around the world, the AIMS Group provides manager diligence, portfolio construction, risk management, and liquidity solutions to investors, drawing on Goldman Sachs’ market insights and risk management expertise. We extend these global capabilities to the world’s leading sovereign wealth funds, pension plans, governments, financial institutions, endowments, foundations, and family offices, for which we invest or advise on over $200 billion of alternative investments and public equity and fixed income strategies.

The AIMS risk management team works closely with all AIMS investment teams to monitor portfolios in which AIMS is invested. This entails detailed data analysis of various quantitative measures across investment managers focused on private and public markets investments, including performance, positioning, market exposures/sensitivities, assets under management, liquidity, and portfolio concentration. Risk management data analysts focus on the data science surrounding these various risk factors: they are primarily responsible for ensuring data is captured, accurate, and analyzed in a thoughtful manner in order to expose any outliers relative to expectations across a variety of dimensions. In addition, they will own the consistency and quality of data in firm systems and be responsible for creating broader platform analyses across managers and AIMS portfolios. The data analyst would support the investment process of AIMS Hedge Fund team.

    RESPONSIBILITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS

    Responsibilities:

    • Primary responsibility is to analyze monthly and quarterly data across funded managers in a thoughtful, timely manner in order to expose outliers relative to expectations, often resulting in written summaries for cases in which a manager’s data deviates from expectations
    • Ensure data is retrieved through the external due diligence questionnaire process for every manager on a monthly or quarterly basis across the platform, which may entail calls with managers to clarify information and reconcile data if inaccurate
    • Ensure all manager performance, exposure, asset and other data is captured and accurately stored in appropriate systems
    • Maintain database of manager investment triggers and work with AIMS risk team to gather and input risk and trigger monitoring data
    • Partner with AIMS investment teams across asset classes and strategies in the event of notable manager outliers in order to 1) synthesize data and present conclusions to senior management and 2) develop new data tools and analytics that may be helpful in the process of manager selection/portfolio monitoring, in collaboration with AIMS Strats and AIMS Risk teams
    • Collaborate with AIMS Technology to enhance existing database tools (e.g. Dynamo implementation)
    • Contribute to a range of AIMS group-wide initiatives and analysis including various research publications, client-related activities, and other business development initiatives
    • For all of these activities, work in conjunction with the other areas of the AIMS group and broader Firm, including the Investment Team, Client Portfolio Solutions, Risk Management & Analytics, Risk Management, Legal, Compliance, and Technology teams

    Qualifications:

    • Ability to work effectively as part of a team in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
    • Demonstrated orientation toward and interest in understanding financial markets and investment management
    • Exceptional analytical and quantitative abilities, including a high level of proficiency in market data applications such as Microsoft Excel, Bloomberg, and other database tools
