PWM Teams work one-on-one with clients to advise and deliver customized strategies drawn from our deep investment experience, diverse wealth management capabilities and global reach. Our Private Wealth Advisors (PWAs) deliver an unparalleled investment platform inclusive of the full product and service offerings of Goldman Sachs and beyond, which may include tax and estate planning, philanthropic planning and private banking and lending services. As client needs evolve, this close relationship allows the team to offer complementary services and new opportunities by leveraging the resources of Goldman Sachs and beyond

 

Goldman Sachs Apex, Head of West Coast Entrepreneur Team

Apex is in search of a Vice President hire to build out and lead its presence in the West Coast, with a focus on working with Private Wealth Advisors (PWAs) to cultivate relationships with the region’s largest family offices and entrepreneurs, including those in the tech ecosystem. The role will also include the sourcing and distribution of proprietary and external alternative investment offerings, including single asset investment opportunities, direct private deals, co-investments and niche funds.

 

Apex is the dedicated family office coverage team that partners with PWAs and leverages a robust cross-divisional framework to develop meaningful strategic relationships with and deliver unique investment opportunities to family offices and entrepreneurs. Beyond overseeing the team’s day-to-day business activities, the individual will work closely with the Alternatives Capital Markets (ACM) business within the Consumer and Wealth division, and serve as the central interface between this family office client base and groups within Goldman Sachs managing alternative investments, including the Investment Banking, Asset Management, Global Markets and Consumer and Wealth Management Divisions. Investment opportunities will span both proprietary and external alternative asset managers, as well as direct, narrowly syndicated private transactions, across asset classes. Because of Goldman’s unique position in the Global Investment Banking sector and provider of alternative investments, this hire will sit at the heart of significant efforts aimed at bringing some of the most differentiated solutions to a growing and highly sophisticated investor base.

Responsibilities May Include 

  • Build out presence across the West Coast community with a focus on, but not limited to, family offices and entrepreneurs active in the technology sector
  • Develop connectivity within the Firm to source and deliver differentiated and bespoke private equity, fixed income and alternative investment products to clients
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of clients' interests and preferences in order to effectively ensure customized execution
  • Champion select investments through due diligence, committee and review processes internally
  • Work closely on business development initiatives including managing client-related events, spearheading product development, improving sourcing channels, and creating scalable solutions 
  • Help to build a dedicated operating platform and framework to better service this client base

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated orientation toward and interest in understanding financial markets with at least 5 years of relevant industry experience; preferably related to investment banking, private or growth equity, structured credit or illiquid public investments
  • Ability to excel in an unstructured, entrepreneurial, business building mode of a new business
  • Demonstrated history of commercial prowess and success
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and desire to work in a team-oriented environment
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and think clearly under pressure
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills​
