The Alternative Investments & Manager Selection (“AIMS”) Group is responsible for identifying, researching and selecting leading third-party investment managers. The group provides investors with investment and advisory solutions across leading hedge fund managers, private equity funds, secondaries, GP stakes, real estate managers, public equity and fixed income strategies.

With over 350 professionals across 11 offices globally, the AIMS Group helps institutional and individual investors with their program design, manager diligence, portfolio construction and risk management.  The investment solutions in AIMS have a long history and our programs have seeded and partnered with many of the world's most prominent alternative investment managers.

Today, AIMS oversees over $275 billion across portfolios of both customized and commingled fund solutions as one of the world's broadest, deepest and longest-standing “open architecture” programs. We manage globally diversified programs, targeted sector-specific strategies, customized portfolios, and a range of advisory services. Our investors generally access opportunities through new fund commitments, secondary market investments, co-investments, seed capital investments, investment manager equity / revenue share stakes, or fund of fund solutions.

The AIMS Platform Management team broadly is responsible for portfolio implementation and trading, liquidity management, executing equity and currency hedging programs, portfolio construction and monitoring, external manager on-boarding, private market deal closings, overseeing the business control framework as well as a number of important strategic initiatives. The team works closely with the investment and client portfolio solutions areas within AIMS, and with functional teams across the broader firm including Central Trading, Fund Accounting, Operations, Technology, Legal and Compliance. Within Platform management, specific teams focus on discrete activities such as external manager-onboarding and deal closings.



  • Key contributor to the Manager On-boarding and Deal Closing function which is responsible for AIMS business operations that involve and impact external investment managers and investments. This includes management of products and platforms and maintaining constructive relationships with external managers. Manager Onboarding and Deal Closing is a dedicated team within AIMS Platform Management
  • Significant interaction with senior members across AIMS investment and client teams, GSAM Federation and external investment managers
  • Material time will be spent engaging with the AIMS private markets deal teams, external counsel and internal parties to negotiate and close complex private investment deals
  • Involvement in the full deal closing lifecycle including managing numerous internal teams, investment structuring analysis and legal and commercial term negotiations to ensure deals are closed with optimal terms for our investors
  • Responsibility for overall deal closing management which includes a deep understanding of liquidity and funding elements of investment deals and AIMS products
  • In-depth partnership with the AIMS investment team to design and execute closing processes
  • Play a key role in product management activities with a focus on profitability, efficiency and scalability
  • Partner with various AIMS teams in evaluating investment opportunities and platforms
  • Active involvement in AIMS-wide projects 


  • At least 5 years of overall experience in a relevant role; preferably within asset management but not required
  • Desire to develop an in-depth understanding of private market investment structures and platforms, market strategies. Additionally, keen interest in understanding private market commercial, legal and tax terms
  • Demonstrated orientation toward managing time sensitive and business critical initiatives and negotiations
  • Strong interpersonal, analytical and communication skills
  • Demonstrated technical capabilities
  • Detail oriented
  • Strong organizational skills to oversee production of a high volume of quality work within tight timeframes
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Proficiency with Excel, PowerPoint and Word. Experience in technology projects is a plus
