Duties: Associate with Goldman Sachs Services LLC in Jersey City, NJ. Responsible for maintaining and evolving the firm’s proprietary and internal control plane software. This software is responsible for enforcing regulatory data controls and enabling automation and self-service tooling for diverse database and messaging products. Advise on the selection of different relational and non-relational databases like Snowflake, MongoDB, IBM DB2, Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL. Interact and influence vendors to facilitate integrations. Build automated and self-service tools using scripting in Shell Scripting, UNIX and Python, in order to reduce operational overhead. Evaluate new products for consideration of onboarding, given data control requirements and feasibility. Drive strategic initiatives and delivery of key programs of work across Middleware Engineering. Utilize tools like IntelliJ, Gitlab, Putty, JIRA, Confluence to build, maintain, and enhance the Middleware Engineering software platform. Implement SRE-based resilience patterns using Prometheus and Grafana for reliable observability practices. Design a centrally hosted control plane by applying knowledge of Design patterns, Object Oriented Programming, Resilience Models and coding in Java and Python, Web Front End work – with API and UIs to support tooling, audits and data feeds. Evaluate the operation of the environment and assist in optimizing product delivery to clients, while working concurrently on multiple projects. Design and develop new tools and applications for Goldman’s database infrastructure (including web GUI, standalone RDBMS support tools, audits and feeds). Coordinate with and respond to the needs of Database Administration and Application teams. Maintain, troubleshoot and provide user support for existing tools and applications.


Job Requirements: Master’s degree (U.S. or foreign equivalent) in Computer Science or a related field and two (2) years of experience in the job offered or in a related role OR Bachelor’s degree (U.S. or foreign equivalent) in Computer Science or a related field and five (5) years of experience in the job offered or in a related role. Must have two (2) years of experience (if Master’s) or five (5) years of experience (if Bachelor’s) with: working with SQL, Stored procedures and relational database products like PostgreSQL, Sybase ASE, MSSQL server; working with MongoDB; and Python and Java Programming. Must have two (2) years of experience with: Django, Celery and SQL Alchemy; Informatica Masking tool; developing software using Shell Scripting and UNIX; and working concurrently on multiple technical projects. Must have one (1) year of experience with: Snowflake Data Warehouse; Prometheus, Grafana and implementing telemetry; evaluating and integrating new and emerging technologies into an existing data platform; Utilizing understanding of database requirements and advising application developers on corresponding solutions to promote standardized offerings; utilizing SSH Consoles, Build Tools, Software Ticketing Systems, Remote File Transfer, Remote Data Transfer and Testing Frameworks to test code functionality, deploying in related environment, promoting it to Production and tracking all the changes in Ticketing System; utilizing Wiki Documentation to draft all the related development information for future references and for reference specifications; and working with and designing Control plane for database and messaging products.
