Duties: Associate with Goldman Sachs Services LLC in New York, NY. Senior technical developer in Global Markets Engineering division, responsible for developing and supporting desktop tools and back-end services for the Firm’s Global Commodities trading & sales business. Monitor Commodities systems with proprietary tools and manage communication with the business and the triage of issues during system outages. Mitigate the risks of changes by monitoring releases and ensuring that there are appropriate rollback plans. Monitor reliability and resiliency of Commodities trading systems: work with other internal software teams to allocate capacity, optimize resource use and manage changes in a number of downstream/upstream systems. Responsible for multiple ongoing projects: peer-review code to ensure it meets the requirements of the projects in hand, enforce technology and Firm standards/best practices, and discuss design decisions. Communicate technical issues to non-technical users and troubleshoot critical issues with Commodities business and the support team. Write software which allows business users to perform their daily activities, including booking and updating trades, managing financial risks, interacting with clients and producing reports. Communicate with the global team members in London and Singapore to ensure that software development is aligned with global initiatives and best practices. Review resumes for open positions across the broader Global Markets Engineering division and, when necessary, conduct phone and on-site interviews with potential job candidates. Work closely with users in the Commodities business unit to build technical solutions to meet business requirements, and to provide day-to-day technical support for internally developed systems. Own technical design and documentation of best practices. Debug and optimize a large, enterprise codebase of trading configurations using common tools and techniques. Mentor, instruct, train and provide technical guidance to more junior members of the team. Must be willing to work with proprietary technologies. No knowledge of proprietary technologies is required pre-hire.


Job Requirements: Bachelor’s or master’s degree (U.S. or foreign equivalent) in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field. Four (4) years of experience with a bachelor’s degree or two (2) years of experience with a master’s degree in the job offered or in a related technical position within the finance or software development industry. Prior experience must include four (4) years with a bachelor’s or two (2) years with a master’s: communicating complex technical issues and concepts to non-technical audiences; working with a global development team to design, implement, and troubleshoot issues with business applications with high-availability requirements; managing production incidents and follow up actions with IT industry best practices such as ITIL (IT Infrastructure Library); designing and developing software for resiliency and reliability; implementing Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) best practices such as Service Level Indicators (SLIs) and Service Level Objectives (SLOs); working on the full SDLC lifecycle, including end-user/business requirements gathering and converting the requirements into technical solutions; working with design patterns and in designing software modules; implementing automated tests to manage risk and ensure minimal code defects; designing and developing software in languages such as Java, C++, or Python in a globally distributed platform; developing and maintaining secure software that includes DMZ components for external public connectivity; working on multi-tiered web applications, including experience with application architectures and integration between different applications; working with user interface development in modern JavaScript frameworks such as Angular or React; working with web/application servers, such as Apache Tomcat; working with Structured Query Languages (SQL) and object databases; working with UNIX operating systems, including Linux, and Bash scripting; and working with SDLC and orchestration tools such as Git, Gradle, Maven or Jenkins.
