Job Title:                    Business Intelligence Architect

Accountability:          Reports to the Legal Tech BI Lead

Job Summary:           Under the direction of the Legal Tech BI Lead, the Business Intelligence Architect identifies business intelligence, reporting, and data analysis needs. They work closely with business users and IT teams to turn data into critical information and knowledge that can be used to make sound business decisions. The Business Intelligence Architect is responsible for the design, implementation, and oversight of the Firm’s business intelligence technologies and processes.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS

Job Summary:           Under the direction of the Legal Tech BI Lead, the Business Intelligence Architect identifies business intelligence, reporting, and data analysis needs. They work closely with business users and IT teams to turn data into critical information and knowledge that can be used to make sound business decisions. The Business Intelligence Architect is responsible for the design, implementation, and oversight of the Firm’s business intelligence technologies and processes.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Primary technical owner of the Firm’s Business Intelligence (BI) and data analytics infrastructure and systems; responsible for the design, architecture, and maintenance of those systems and the creation of dashboards and reports they provide.
  • Identify and assess emerging BI trends across industries. Evaluate these for applicability within the Firm’s BI strategy, program, and architecture.
  • Maximize the Firm’s ongoing investment in BI technologies by evaluating available features; and staying attuned to vendor announcements, upgrades, and updates. Ensure the BI infrastructure is maintained and updated as needed.
  • Create and maintain BI program documentation, including policies, standards, baselines, guidelines and procedures; and incorporate the maintenance of this documentation into project life cycles.
  • Meet with Executive Committee members, Practice Group leaders, Directors and Subject Matter Experts to discuss and assess their BI needs. Ensure that weaknesses and gaps in the Firm’s BI posture are adequately addressed.
  • Act as project manager and business analyst to create project plans, establish business requirements and priorities; define key performance indicators and BI and data warehousing strategies. Ensure new BI projects are carried out in a controlled manner and meet stakeholder expectations.
  • Provide data solutions that are accurate, reliable, and ensure information is easily available to users for direct consumption or integration with other systems. Educate and train clients to use the solution(s) as an analytical and exploratory tool.
  • Act as the primary owner for reviewing enhancements and change requests to existing BI solutions. Determine feasibility, establish timelines and manage expectations.
  • Act as the primary owner for reviewing data inconsistencies. Working with Subject Matter Experts for the data source, troubleshoot and perform root cause analysis as the primary investigator for all BI issues originating from these systems.
  • In conjunction with the Director of IT, coordinate the efforts of IT staff to ensure that the Firm’s BI and data policies are followed when deploying or maintaining systems throughout the SDLC (Analysis, Design, Acquisition, Implementation, and Monitoring).
  • Contribute to the effective Data Governance of Stroock’s business data. This includes data quality, data management, data policies, business process management, and risk management surrounding the handling of business data at Stroock.
  • Maintain an evolving understanding of cloud technologies, architectures, and ramifications to the Firm’s BI posture. Evaluate, design, and implement cloud technologies that satisfy the Firm’s BI objectives.
  • In conjunction with the Firm’s database administrator(s), maintain SQL databases and other potential BI data sources.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 4-year degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics or similar field of study.
  • A minimum of 5 years of IT, Business Intelligence and data analytics related experience.
  • Expert knowledge of Qlik View or Sense and familiarity with other popular BI tools.
  • Advanced knowledge of the Microsoft stack of technologies especially MS SQL, SharePoint, Active Directory, Excel and others as used by the Firm.
  • Advanced knowledge of data extracting, gathering, normalizing, transforming and loading techniques as well as data modeling, performing advanced statistical analysis on both structured and unstructured datasets.
  • Strong understanding of Microsoft Windows and Server technologies and web and SharePoint development skills.
  • Excellent listening skills and written and oral communication skills, including effective project management and presentation skills.
