MORE ABOUT THIS JOB

The Investment Banking Division works on some of the most complex financial challenges and transactions in the market today. Whether advising on a merger, providing financial solutions for an acquisition, or structuring an initial public offering, we handle projects that help clients at major milestones. We work with corporations, pension funds, financial sponsors, and governments and are a team of strong analytical thinkers, who have a passion for producing out-of-the-box ideas

RESPONSIBILITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS

Role
The M&A Capital Markets (“MACM”) team is responsible for differentiating the firm’s M&A franchise by providing solutions to clients on unique or complex merger matters. MACM is an integral part of the M&A advisory business, and provides
clients with capital markets insights and judgments on all aspects of strategic transactions, ranging from the structuring of merger consideration to the interpretation of complex trading patterns.

MACM is looking for a new hire to join the team as an Analyst. The position is a rewarding experience, providing an excellent foundation for a career in M&A, with the opportunity to build a deep understanding of the merger business from pitch, to negotiation, to execution, as well as the ability to have an immediate impact on high-profile merger transactions.

Responsibilities
This individual will help senior bankers across IBD advise clients on a diverse set of merger-related matters. He or she will be responsible for monitoring the broader market and deal environment, helping more senior members of the team to
architect structured deal solutions (such as M&A collars and cash-stock elections), preparing and presenting analysis of shareholders, and predicting and interpreting technical trading around strategic transactions. This individual will also help build out and maintain our thought leadership to ensure that the broader division has the full benefit of MACM’s extensive understanding of complex merger topics.

Amongst other things, this individual will be responsible for:

  • Maintaining the group’s various databases
  • Leveraging merger and ownership data to create differentiated analysis and perspectives on the merger markets for use in marketing and advisory
  • Using statistical analysis to identify trading patterns related to mergers and other corporate events, including merger arbitrage, holding company discounts, and index fund trading
  • Interpreting investor sentiment around transaction risks by synthesizing market feedback, stock performance and third party commentary
  • Analyzing the financial and capital markets impact of novel transaction structures designed by senior team members
  • Providing real-time judgments and insight into trading dynamics for use with clients
  • Gauging the potential impact of acquisitions on pre- and post-closing client valuations

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE WE’RE LOOKING FOR

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with confidence to interact with clients and senior leaders within the firm
  • Exceptional quantitative and technical skills, ideally with experience in statistics or computer science
  • Basic understanding of company valuation concepts (comparable multiples, DCF, LBO, etc)
  • Familiarity with basic derivative concepts (e.g., Delta, Gamma, etc)
  • Keen interest in global markets and macroeconomic environment
  • Effective project management skills with ability to prioritize competing projects and deadlines
  • Intellectual curiosity and creativity, with a demonstrated interest in learning about M&A
  • Self-starting, proactive person who demonstrates initiative, ownership and leadership
  • Drive, enthusiasm and solid work ethic
